Aside from it a considerable upgrade to their popular massager-type vibrator, Lelo’s Smart Wand 2 brings something pleasantly different to the world of sextoys.
It’s right there—front and center—in the term sextoys. Or, rather, how Lelo’s marketing for their Smart Wand 2 focuses not so much on it as ideal for genital stimulation—though it’s excellent for that—but how it’s designed for foreplay over helping to ring in an orgasm.
To put it another way, the Smart Wand 2, and Lelo’s advertising for it, is a breath of fresh air: a product that reminds us that sex is more than coming—and you can have an arousing time with foreplay as well.➡️ Click here to check the price of the Lelo Wand 2!
Exploring Lelo’s Smart Wand 2
As its name says, the Smart Wand 2’s based on one of the oldest and still well-regarded vibrator types out there—though Lelo has made more than a few improvements to this classic sextoy.
Beginning with an improvement to their first Smart Wand’s overall shape and construction by making the mark 2’s handle easier to hold and control. Or, as they say on the toy’s product page, they’ve upgraded this part to make it steadier.
That might not seem a particularly significant upgrade. However, if you’ve taken toys like the original Smart Wand out for a spin, you were quickly aware that putting its vibrating goodness where it’ll do the most good can be challenging, even at the best of times.
This is also reflected in Lelo’s marketing charges. As their first Smart Wand’s primary selling point was its horsepower, Lelo’s pitch for the Smart Wand 2 is all about how much easier it is to control. Though, while downplayed somewhat, “power” is still a significant point for the improved version.
Smart Wand 2’s superior battery life
That’s not all, as the Smart Wand 2 is a seriously impressive upgrade from its predecessor in the battery department.
As that old saying goes, numbers don’t lie. So here’s how they compare regarding how long each takes to charge versus how long they can be used for:
Original Smart Wand:
- 3 to 4 hours charging time for 2hrs playtime (with 90 days in standby)
Smart Wand 2:
- 2 ½ hours to fully charge for 4 hours of use (also 90 days in standby)
While there’s no improvement in how many minutes you can keep the Smart Wand 2 ready for use, it’s how massively different the two toys are in how fast the improved toy takes to power up and how it doubles the amount of time you have to enjoy it.
I tell ya, this alone almost wants me to finish my review right here with a triumphant proclamation that you, definitively and determinedly, gotta get your hands on Lelo’s Smart Wand 2 as soon as you can.
I mean, just look at those numbers and tell me you didn’t nod your head or whistle in appreciation at this upgrade. Not that the original’s two hours was bad for its 2 hours of vibrating enjoyment—since it’s better than most other wand vibrators on the market—but that Lelo’s added an additional two hours of use to their Smart Wand 2 … well, let me say that any nodding or whistling is well deserved.
Smart Wand 2’s improved control and ease-of-use
There’s also a marked improvement in how the Smart Wand 2’s controlled and what kinds of vibrations it delivers. As with many of their other products, Lelo’s Smart Wand 2 has three buttons, distinctly more ergonomic than the older model’s.
At the top and bottom are the increase (first, marked with a plus sign) and decrease (last, indicated by a minus), with the center button used to power the toy on or off or cycling through the Smart Wand 2’s ten built-in vibration patterns.
It also has a lock feature, so the Smart Wand 2 doesn’t accidentally turn itself on … before you want to turn yourself on, that is.
That makes it superb for traveling, as it’s distinctly awkward for a sextoy to begin buzzing, oscillating, or whatever else it was built to while its owner is passing through airport security—though as the Smart Wand 2 is a bit on the large-ish side that cat’s gonna be already pretty much out of the bag.
To lock it, hold the increase and decrease buttons that are the same to unlock it, as well—or the Smart Wad 2 will do it automatically when it’s plugged into its charger. Meanwhile, to turn it on or off—while it’s unlocked, that is—press the center button.
The Smart Wand 2’s softer skin
On the outside, Lelo’s further upped their game by retaining their original Smart Wand’s silicone, skin body-safe, skin while making the Smart Wand 2’s extra-pleasantly extra-soft.
That neatly dovetails with their pitch that their Smart Wand 2 isn’t for merely tickling your genital’s fancy—or fancies, as it were, but was designed to be an enjoyable all-over massager.
Lelo’s shows that sex isn’t always about genitals
At the risk of beating a deceased equine, I’d like to delve a bit more into that. Call me a cranky so-and-so, (“Damned, kids, get off my lawn!”), I’m getting a little tired of what seems like every sextoy company, taking the “sex” part of “sextoy” far too literally.
Agreed, they can be excellent at that, and I enthusiastically await, like the technosexual fanboy I am, for what they’ll come up with next; I find myself wishing they’d learn that sex doesn’t exclusively mean what happens below someone’s belt.
From nipples to upper arms, thighs to buttocks, feet to the back of a person’s neck, the human body is packed with an arousing variety of erogenous zones—that, in many cases, people understand can be more arousing than their genitalia.
Enter Lelo’s and how with their upgraded Smart Wand’s ease of use, battery life, and extra-smooth silicon skin, also made a meaningful change in how a toy can be used.
And, in doing so, they’re acknowledging the all-important fact that there’s more to pleasure and arousal than the application of a powerful electric motor to a person’s naughty bits.
That out of the way, I’ll get back back to the Smart Wand 2’s features, specifics, and stuff-like-that-there.
The toy weighs a little under a pound (0.84 to be specific) and is shy of a foot long (11.97 inches). In width, it’s 3.4 inches and 2.36 in height.
Its silicone skin covers most of the Smart Wand 2’s surface, except for the gold-colored section on the underside, making it aesthetically compatible with many of Lelo’s other products.
And also like them, you can choose from one of three colors: a passionate fuschia, a cool light blue, and everything-goes-with black.
Charging the Smart Wand 2 is done through a cable plugged into the base of the toy. About that, I promise not to get into yet another (ahem) rant about why I prefer this over magnetic chargers, though regarding Lelo’s choice of this plug and forget system, I will belt out an enthusiastic thank goodness!
Once plugged in, a little LED light on the Smart Wand 2 begins blinking and then steadily glowing when it’s all juiced up. The same light additionally tells you when it’s time to charge—low power indicated again by a steadily blinking LED.
The Smart Wand 2’s waterproofness—and how to clean it
Right along with its other good features, the Smart Wand 2 is gloriously waterproof, so you can take it into your bath or shower without worry that it’ll be damaged or, worse, stop working. The Smart Wand 2’s silicone covering will also break down if exposed to excessively hot water or left out in the sun.
When the party’s over, clearing the Smart Wand 2 is far from a chore: give it a warm water bath with a spurt of mild dish soap or, as Lelo recommends, their branded Toy Cleaner.
While the sink and soap method works fine if a company makes and promotes their cleaning stuff, I say go with the latter as, after all, they know their products inside and out.
A little more on this subject, as Lelo notes, avoiding using anything containing alcohol—so no hand sanitizers—or acetone-based stuff as it’ll wreck the toy’s silicone skin.
I know this sounds counter-intuitive, what with our current focus on sterilizing everything around us to within an inch of its life, there’s honestly not a lot to worry about when it comes to cleaning this, or any other, sextoy—just do what the manufacturer recommends, and you’ll be fine.
Even if you enjoy sharing your Smart Wand 2 with someone, or several someones, employing Lelo’s Toy Cleaner—perhaps leading with a soap and water wash before applying it—you and whoever else gets their hands on it will be right-as-rain. One last thing: that you should never fail to diligently clean this or a similar toy before allowing anyone else to use it.
Since during this pandemic, it can be easy to forget that there are loads of other bugs in the world, as well—and some of them will also mess you up in a serious way.
What comes with Lelo’s Smart Wand 2
With their Smart Wand 2, customers get a charging cable, that satin pouch I mentioned, a warranty card, and a user’s manual. Since it’s somewhat on the small side, Lelo thoughtfully provides a PDF version to download or view on your computer or smartphone.
Regarding the warranty, the Smart Wand 2 is covered for a year—the details of which are on the toy’s product page and in the manual.
Despite“smart” in its description, the Smart Wand 2 isn’t a Bluetooth-enabled product. Which I don’t think is that big of a deal as, right along with my embarrassingly enthusiastic passion for this new generation of interactive sextoys (living in the future is so hot!), I think this feature too often feels ill-thought-out—or unnecessarily added to sextoys that never needed to jump on the Internet-of-things bandwagon in the first place.
So here’s to Lelo for avoiding that trap. Though it’s not a brainy product, they definitely put a lot of their considerable smarts into making an excellently-conceived and well-crafted sextoy.
- Designed for all-over pleasure
- Huge increase in battery life: from 2 hours with the older model to 4 with the new
- Shorter charge time, as well
- Redesigned for additional comfort and ease-of-use
- Silicone skin is smoother/softer than its predecessor
- Can be used for genital stimulation, though there are toys designed more specifically for that
- May not be pleasurable for those uninterested in using it for massage or foreplay
As you probably deduced by my comments above, I don’t have anything significantly negative to say about Lelo’s Smart Wand 2.
Though, as I noted in my cons if you prefer sextoys that are specifically about getting you off, then the Smart Wand 2 probably won’t be your cup of Earl Grey.
That said, even if Lelo’s changed their marketing for the Smart Wand 2—making its appeal more focused on foreplay and massage—there’s no stopping you from using it on your fun bits as well.
After all, consider the noble history of these types of vibrators, arguably the oldest mechanical sexual devices—ever—and how they were initially advertised as “massagers,” no one ever used them in that capacity.
So, hands—and other body parts—down, I recommend purchasing Lelo’s Smart Wand 2: better design, superior in the comfort-department, softer silicone skin, and its double-your-pleasure enhanced battery life.
That’s not the only reason I’m trying to drum up business for Lelo and their new toy, as I want to conclude—yet again—by addressing how its change in design and construction, and the marketing of it, Lelo is calling attention to what’s a rarity in the sextech industry: that while our genitals are the bees-knees when it comes to sexual pleasure, it’s not the only way many people get turned on.
So purchase a Smart Wand 2 for all its improvements, but also to support a company that’s thinking outside of your box—and who might help you to discover how arousing the rest of your body can be.➡️ Click here to check the price of the Lelo Wand 2!
